What should you do if there is an overdose spike?
For people who use drugs
Take steps for safer drug use:
- Test all drugs for fentanyl before using
- Carry Narcan® (naloxone)
- Get safer use supplies, including fentanyl test strips and Narcan® from our LifePoint Program: 112 Otter Avenue, Second Floor, Oshkosh, WI
You can also ask a pharmacist for Narcan®. - Avoid using street drugs alone; call Never Use Alone at (877) 696-1996
For everyone in our community
Recognize the signs of an overdose:
- Pale, sweaty or clammy skin
- Lips/fingertips turn blue
- Slow or irregular breathing: gasping, gurgling, or snoring
- Difficult or unable to wake
Always call 911 if you suspect someone is overdosing

If you're struggling and need help, you don't have to walk this path alone. The We Heart You App includes resources for individuals struggling, family members or friends who want to connect their loved ones to help, or professionals who want to share the app.
Specific resources include information on:
- Treatment resources
- Support meetings
- Access to Narcan and harm-reduction tools
- Support services including food, housing, employment, and county services
- Mental and behavioral health screeners
- Live chat feature where you can be connected to a recovery support specialist through phone, text, chat, or email
